
Andrew S. Muñoz

U.S. Coast Guard Reserve
LT Munoz joined the Pasadena Company, Navy League Cadet
Corps in 1991 at the age 11. In the summer of 1993 he transferred
to the Pasadena Division, Naval Sea Cadet Corps where he
would go on to attain the highest cadet rate of Chief Petty
Officer. In 1998, LT Munoz graduated out of the Cadet program
and was enrolled as a Midshipman and he assumed the duties
of training officer of the Pasadena Division. He would later
transfer to the Long Beach Division and serve as the unit's
training officer. He served there there until 2003, leaving
after having served as the Executive Officer for 3 years.

Munoz enlisted the U.S. Coast Guard in 2002 under the College
Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative. Upon completion of
Coast Guard Recruit Training in Cape May, NJ, LT Munoz returned
to Woodbury University where he completed his Bachelors
Degree in Business Management. Shortly thereafter he reported
to Coast Guard Officer Candidate School (OCS) at the Coast
Guard Academy in New London, CT for 17 weeks of officer
indoctrination. LT Munoz received his commission as an Ensign
in the U.S. Coast Guard on July 14, 2004.
He
then reported to the USCGC STORIS (WMEC 38), homeported
in Kodiak, Alaska, where he served as a deck watch officer
and boarding officer patroling the Bering Sea and Gulf of
Alaska. LTJG Munoz completed his tour aboard the STORIS
in July 2006. He then reported to Sector Los Angeles-Long
Beach where he served as the sector public affairs officer,
a command duty officer, and as a member of the sector incident
management division. In October 2008, LT Munoz was released
from active duty and transferred to the USCG Reserve.
He
is currently employed by the National Park Service and serves
as the public affairs officer for Lake Mead National Recreation
Area.

Munoz is currently a member of the NSCC Internet Development
Group. His previous duties on the IDG included serving as
the National Recruiting Program Administrator and developing
the current "Test your limits" recruiting campaign.

Munoz has escorted 20 advanced training evolutions since
1998.
LT
Munoz's personal NSCC awards include the NSCC Chairman's
Medal, Distinguished Service Ribbon, and the Meritorious
Recognition Ribbon (2 awards). His personal military awards
include the USCG Achievement Medal, USCG Commandant's Letter
of Commendation Ribbon (2 awards), Global War on Terrorism
Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal,
and USCG Sea Service Ribbon. He was the recipient of the
Coast Guard's Alex Haley Journalism Award for excellence
in public affairs for the year 2005.
